Running in support of CF

An inspirational mum, whose strength and determination to live life to the full with CF, motivated Brittany Mullacrane-Munson to compete in this year’s Ports of Auckland Round the Bays.

Here Brittany shares her story:

“I'm someone who loves a challenge, so I set myself the challenge to complete this year’s Round the Bays. I discovered the Everydayhero website for fundraising for charities and decided it was a good opportunity to raise awareness and support for cystic fibrosis as it’s not often known about by people whose lives are not directly affected by it.

I've watched my mum Sharon battle this disease my entire life and what it’s forced her to go through, but I’ve also seen how much strength she has and how brave she is to keep fighting every day.

She is someone I look up to, I have so much respect for her and she has always unconditionally supported me in everything I do, no matter what, so I wanted to take the opportunity to do something for her.

It's very hard seeing what she has to deal with on a daily basis and knowing there is nothing you can do to ease the pain or exhaustion so this was something little I could actually do to show her that I see how hard she works everyday just to stay alive and how much I appreciate her.

I didn't train for Round the Bays at all. My goal was to complete the race in 1 hour and I completed it in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 58 seconds. I attend the gym 5–6 days a week weight training as I do body sculpting as a sport, so I am quite active anyway but running isn't usually my thing.

I wish I had trained though as I may have gotten a better time but I'm still happy with my completion time. It was my first time running Round the Bays and I enjoyed it.

My Everydayhero page has gone past the target I set of $500 and I would love it to increase even further as every little bit can make a difference."
