Pharmac Board make positive decision to expand access to Trikafta and Kalydeco, and fund Alyftrek.

11 March 2026

It’s a yes! Pharmac Board make positive decision to expand access to Trikafta and Kalydeco, and fund Alyftrek.

Together with our CF community, we’re excited to mark a moment that brings new hope and opportunity for Kiwis living with CF, including the youngest members of our CF family.

The final step toward expanding access to Trikafta for children aged 2 and over, widening access to Kalydeco, and funding Alyftrek for those who are eligible, has now been completed. The Pharmac Board has met, the decision has been made, and from 1 April 2026, it is very happy news! This marks an important milestone toward ensuring every Kiwi living with CF can access a therapy that works for them.

“Access to Alyftrek would be life‑changing for our family. When Trikafta was funded, we were thrilled for our community, even though Harry’s gene mutations meant he wasn’t eligible. We’ve seen what a difference it has made for others, and now we are so excited and relieved to finally have hope for Harry too — hope for better health, more possibilities, and a brighter future,” says Aly Oxenham, Mum of 11 year old Harry.

Our grateful thanks to Pharmac for making the right decision; and for recognising the importance of making the eligibility criteria for these medicines as wide as possible. We can see that the feedback included in CFNZ’s public consultation submission was taken on board and actioned.

To every person who made a submission, wrote a letter, shared their lived experience, stood up for their whānau, or supported someone who did – thank you. Your courage and persistence helped shape this outcome.

To the clinical teams who provide care, guidance, and advocacy - thank you for walking alongside our community, our collective voice has been heard!

We remain deeply grateful to Vertex Pharmaceuticals for their ongoing innovation and for creating these transformative medicines.

Gratitude in spades!

While today marks meaningful progress, we know the mahi continues. CFNZ will keep working alongside our community to ensure fair and timely access for all who are eligible, and continue to search for those where there is no access. As we celebrate, we also honour those for whom these treatments have come too late — their stories remain at the heart of why we do this work – we are with you always.
