Otago Cricketers take the bait

Dunedin CF fishing legend Dylan Booth recently spent a day out on the water with players from the Otago Volts Cricket Team. He shares with CFNZ how the cricketers fared swapping cricket bat for fishing rod.

“My health hasn’t been very good lately as I’ve been in and out of hospital for the past few months, so I thought of a brilliant idea to do a fishing outing with the Otago Volts Cricket Team.

I know one player quite well, so we discussed a plan and got all the players together for a fishing session at a local Dunedin dam. Although not too many anglers had much success, Mark Craig pulled out a nice rainbow trout on the far bank!

To balance out the lack of fish, we drove to the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club for a BBQ.

I’d like to say a big thanks to all the players that attended the event and a massive shout out to Steve Dixon from Fish & Game Otago for supplying some rods for the players that don’t own fishing gear”.

And what did some of the cricket players think?

“Loved the fact I caught a fish and you didn’t! I’d 100% go fishing again, next time you may have to take me to your secret spots and get a big boy fish!” Mark Craig

“Loved the serenity of the fishing, the thrill of the chase really intrigued me. Yeah I would go again.” Nathan Smith

“I always love getting outdoors and enjoy the beauty and serenity that Otago has to offer, catching the fish is a pure bonus.” Christi Viljoen

Dylan loves spending as much time as he can out on the water. When he’s not casting a line, he’s busy uploading his adventures to his YouTube channel. Check it out for some serious fishing tips and tricks!
