New video to help kids starting school

17 July 2019

When you’re a kid, turning 5 is a big deal and for most Kiwi kids age 5 means starting school! For parents, watching your pre-schooler get ready to start school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, and if your child has CF it can feel all that more daunting.

For 6-year-old Sophia from Hamilton, having cystic fibrosis doesn't stop her enjoying and thriving at school. Recently we were lucky enough to spend a couple of days with Sophia, her family and her classmates to learn how she manages her CF with school life.

Sophia was really keen to help us show to other kids with CF and their families how much fun school can be. Even though she’s got a couple of extra things to do, such as take her Creon and have extra snacks during the school day, she finds plenty of time to play with her friends and do lots of school work!

Thank you to Sophia and family for sharing your story, and to SKIP for funding this video.
