Cystic Fibrosis is NZ's most common life-threatening inherited disease and the CF Association is the only national organisation dedicated to all aspects of the condition.

Welfare Grants

» Hospital Allowance:

A $20 per day allowance towards costs is available to all CF patients on transfer from their base hospital, or when admitted to a hospital more than 100 kilometers from their current residence. This is available for a maximum of 28 days per admission, except in the case where a transplant has been carried out, when a 90 day maximum will apply. Application to the National Office should be made by the CF patient or their caregiver on the form available from the National Office, the local Branch of the Association, the CF specialist nurse/charge nurse at the hospital, or it can be downloaded here Hospital_Allowance_Nov2009.pdf

The following four areas of assistance need to be applied for in writing, with relevant information and receipts provided, once available. However, if you prefer, initial enquiries/contact can be made by phone to the National Office.

» Funeral Expenses Grant:

A grant of $1,000.00 is available to assist with the costs of the funeral of a person with cystic fibrosis, resident in NZ. This is available to the parent, caregiver or spouse/partner on application to the Association.

» Open Transplant Assistance:

Available to the parent, caregiver or spouse/partner of a CF patient undergoing open transplant, and covers reimbursement of approved travel, accommodation, and other expenses.

» Financial Hardship:

Available to a CF adult, parent or caregiver where major financial hardship is established.

Assistance from Branches: Other welfare needs can often be met by the local branches of the Association, as they have funds set aside specifically for use in their areas. Please contact the branch serving your area.
